UCL student days

Created by Gwyneth 3 years ago

It was 1948 when we began our studies .. some students had just left school, others had been in the war.. conditions were poor.. but Jeremy Bentham was back from storage, and life began again. I remember when Peter Hill missed an essay group- because his son, Christopher, had just been born.

Another memory is of us all going to a lecture at the Senate House, to see a very old R.H Tawney, whose famous essay on the Rise of the Gentry- showed a turning point in the development of our constitution.  After graduation, it was Stan who kept in touch with us all, and -in my case- our families became friends, and still are.

Stan was a good friend to me, and I will miss his phone-calls, and the visits which- in earlier times, we had.  Gwyneth Davies (nee Taylor)
