The Victoria County History is an internationally respected local history project, published by the University of London, that is creating a history of England through detailed accounts of its individual communities. The Essex VCH has published 12 volumes, including the five London boroughs formerly within the historic county, Harlow, Colchester and the seaside resorts of Clacton, Walton and Frinton. Its current work is on Harwich and Dovercourt. Stan became a trustee of the VCH Essex Trust in 2001 and was a constant source of inspiration in promoting the project and securing the funds needed
